“Healing is based in the context of your own culture.”

Join our fun cultural celebrations!

BAW
hosts cultural celebrations and programs with volunteers from cultural communities to honor children and their countries of origin.

The celebrations provide opportunities for children to sing, dance, laugh, cook and learn about their cultural heritage, and to feel pride in sharing this heritage with their adopted families and others.

Cultures Represented Include:

  • African/Caribbean
  • Asian (China, India, Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam)
  • Indian/Nepalese
  • Central and South American (Guatemala and Colombia)
  • Eastern European countries (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Bulgaria).

“One four-day weekend at a summer heritage camp may not be enough for some children to be able to cope…In fact, in some cases the camp itself brings up issues of loss and grief that may have been in a child's subconscious for many years. It would be extremely helpful for these children to have an opportunity outside of camp and on a more regular basis to process these feelings and to continue on their path toward healthy growth. For some children, the heritage camp experience is just a fraction of what they need to gain that important self-esteem. An organization devoted to the healthy development of adopted children and of adoptive families is crucial. Parents also continue to need support well beyond the heritage camp experience.

I personally feel that Colorado is well past due for this kind of ‘adoption center’ and I am very supportive of Kim Gangwish and Beginnings with Adoption Wellness.”

Pam Sweetser, Executive Director, Colorado Heritage Camps, Inc.
